Shane Grocke
My birthplace was Whyalla, South Australia in 1972, where my parents Moira and Geoff lived. I spent my childhood in Penola, studying at Mary MacKillop Memorial School (called St Joseph’s at the time), until we moved to Clarendon in 1982. I went to Clarendon Primary School and then onto Sacred Heart College.
I played cricket and Football during my school years, until I discovered Rugby Union in Year 11. I then played for South Australia at the Schoolboys and Under-21 levels.
I studied Civil Engineering at the University of South Australia after finishing school. I had various jobs while I was studying, such as working in a bakery, umpiring indoor cricket and promoting junior rugby union. I never pursued a career in Engineering, but switched to computers instead.
At 23, I and 2 partners launched an IT company that still thrives today. Thanks to cloud computing and the NBN, I can work from home most of the time.
I have resided in various places, such as Whyalla, Penola, Clarendon, Glengowrie, Glenelg East, Ascot Park, and finally our permanent home in Normanville.
My passion for photography was reignited in 2020, when I moved to Normanville. The Normanville Beach, and especially the Jetty, inspired me to take up my camera again. I had considered a photography career before I became an Engineer, but it was not the right choice for me at that time.
Photography is becoming more than a hobby for me. I enjoy collaborating with the local families and businesses, as well as the local scenery, to preserve the moment.
My age is 51, and I have a wife named, who works at Aqua Blue Normanville Beach. We also have a daughter, who is 17 and goes to Yankalilla Area School, and my wife’s mother, dog Mitzy and bird ChiChi living with us.
We all love our region, it is our forever home.
