SA local government elections are conducted entirely by postal vote — there are no polling booths. Here's how it works, step by step. It only takes a few minutes, and your vote makes a real difference to the future of our community.
Make sure you're on the electoral roll before 5:00 pm on Monday 4 January 2027. You can check your enrolment online through the Electoral Commission SA website. If you're not enrolled, you won't receive a ballot pack and won't be able to vote.
SA local government elections are conducted entirely by post. Between 11–17 March 2027, you'll receive a ballot pack in your letterbox. It will include your ballot paper, a candidate information guide, a ballot envelope, and a reply-paid return envelope.
Your ballot pack includes a booklet with statements from each candidate. Take the time to read about who's standing and what they plan to do for your community.
Number the candidates in order of your preference, starting with 1 for your first choice. You can number as many or as few candidates as you like — but the more preferences you express, the more say you have in the final result.
Place your completed ballot paper in the ballot envelope and seal it. Then place the ballot envelope inside the reply-paid return envelope and sign the declaration on the back. Post it back as early as possible — no stamp needed.
Your vote must reach the returning officer by 5:00 pm on Wednesday 7 April 2027. Don't leave it to the last minute — post it well ahead of the deadline to make sure your voice is counted.
🗳️ That's it — six simple steps.
Your vote is your voice. Make sure it's heard by posting your ballot well before the 7 April 2027 deadline.
I will release my recommended voting order after nominations have closed and all candidates have been declared. Check back here after 9 February 2027 for my recommendations.
If your ballot pack hasn't arrived by late October, contact the Electoral Commission SA on 1300 655 232 or visit ecsa.sa.gov.au to request a replacement.
